We took a crack at TOXIKK yesterday and we loved it! Toxikk, is a arena style FPS game, reminiscent of games like Quake 3 Arena and Unreal Tournament, and is a great throwback to the FPS shooters of yesteryear. It’s tag line even states that you can ‘Frag like it’s 1999‘. What we’re you “fragging” back then?
Either way, we took a first look at the free…read demo…version of the game on Steam, and spent about 15-20 mins playing it. We found that the game is smooth, without any glitches so far, and has a nice tight feel to its mechanics. It’s interesting to note that the game was first unveiled about a year ago in early access form, and it’s come a long way since then.
For the price of just under $10, you cannot go wrong with this game. However, what we’re not sure is how this game will grow in popularity especially with the likes of Overwatch around, and some of the older school shooters still being quite popular. Nonetheless, this is a fantastic game, that truly gives you a 1999 feel.
The only downside we found was that some parts of the game had a dated feel to it…visually at least, but who knows, if that’s part of the 1999 experience. Watch our gameplay and first impressions video below:
